Lock fitted in door of vehicle

The locking device may be fitted in the door of a motor vehicle. It has a casing (1) made of plastics material. It has a fork or pawl (3) hinged on a shaft (5) and engaging a pin or bolt (7) firmly fastened to the bodywork of the vehicle. When the door is closed, the pin enters into a tapered channel (45) in the lock assembly and the fork or pawl may be rotated to trap the pin at the bottom of the bolt in it. There is a pivoted lever (4) on a second shaft (6) which may rotate to engage a step (8) on the fork and lock it in the door locked position.
