In an electric heating type catalyst support, a reinforced layer is formed in inner and outer circumferential portions of a honeycomb unit as required, a plurality of insulating ceramics bars are disposed in an outer circumferential layer and/or an inner circumferential layer at the end of the exhaust gas downstream side of the honeycomb unit in such a manner that those insulating ceramics bars extend across a non-reinforced layer of the honeycomb unit, and a leading end of each of ceramics bars is held on the reinforced layer via a pin or a ring-like holding member connected to an external metal tube, whereby the deviation of the honeycomb unit and breakage of a foil can be prevented without interrupting electrifying heating to thereby remarkably improve the durability of the catalyst support.
