Screened heavy current cable with temp and water sensors

The cable has the temp and water sensor provided in the vicinity of the cable screening, by providing both sensors as a single tension-resistant element (10) incorporated in the cable screening wires. The element is provided by a hollow metal tube (11), enclosing a pair of optical fibres (12,13) for a temp sensor and carrying a plastics fibre mesh (14), for insulating the metal tube from the adjacent cable screening wires, so that it acts as an electrical water sensor.
