1298926 Electro-photographic copiers XEROX CORP 21 May 1970 [28 May 1969] 24641/70 Heading G2H [Also in Division B8] Tracking errors in the movement of the photoconductor belt 14 of a xerographic copying machine are corrected by an arrangement including a pivotally mounted tracking roller 12. As shown, the shaft 64 of the roller 12 is mounted in support arms 60, 62 which are pivoted to a floating support 50, 54, 52; an arm 74 is attached to the arms 60, 62 by respective spherical bearings 78, 80 and is itself mounted at 76 on the support plate 54 so as to be rotatable about an axis 96 lying in a plane that bisects the angle of the belt runs on either side of the roller 12. If the belt should move from a desired path, a mechanical feedback force representative of tracking errors as detected by rollers engaging the edge of the belt, Fig. 5 (not shown) is transmitted to the arm 74 by means of a mechanical linkage 90, 86, 92, 94 so that the arm 74 rotates about the axis 96; this motion is transmitted to the steering arm 60 which will rotate about point 56 in a direction into the paper as shown in Fig.4, the arm 74 moving against the action of a bias spring 72. This rotating action about axis 96 will cause the belt 14 to be recentered about its optimum operating path. |
