PURPOSE: To eliminate the influence of a disturbance magnetic field as the best of its ability and to correct the detection error with high accuracy. CONSTITUTION: An X axis direction component and a Y axis direction component of an input magnetic vector are discretely collected as correction data (steps 110, 111). When the number of pieces of correction data becomes four, a reference point of an azimuth circle is calculated based on the collected correction data (step 114) and renewed (step 115). At that time, an amount of variation in the X axis direction component and an amount of variation in the Y direction component are checked (step 106). When they are equal to or greater than an upper value, the correction data which has been collected so far is discarded (step 116).
