<p>Gas is admitted at the lower inlet to a cylindrical vertical column housing a number of gas-porous partitions across which the gas flows. Liquid flows down the column being trapped at each partition to the level of a drain duct feeding overflow from each section to the next lower section. Adequate stirring and mixing is ensured by electrically driven stirrers fitted at each level and operating within an inverted open-ended funnel to optimise flow characteristics with preferably aspiration ducts debouching coaxially with the stirrer to below the liquid level.</p> |
