PURPOSE: To obtain the subject medium capable of efficiently transducing a gene to a host cell and minimizing reduction in the survival rate of the host cell. CONSTITUTION: In a method for transducing a gene to a cell by using a virus as a vector, a virus containing a recombinant gene and a host cell are cultured in a virus-infected medium obtained by adding a serum-free component or a serum and serum-free component and a bivalent metal ion selected from Mg, Ca and Zn to a cell culture medium consisting essentially of an amino acid and the cell is infected to give the objective virus infected medium for transducing the gene to the cell.
