PURPOSE: To provide a method for raising ginger by spraying a soil-treating agent containing a specific compound on soil to control the rhizome putrefactive disease of the ginger, and subsequently planting the seed buds of the ginger in the treated soil, and further to provide the soil-treating agent for controlling the same. CONSTITUTION: A composition contains an azide compound capable of being hydrolyzed by the action of water to generate hydrogen azide. The effective amount of the composition is sprayed on soil, and the seed buds of ginger are planted in the treated soil, and raised. The method can control the rhizome putrefactive disease of the ginger. On the spray treatment, the composition is preferably sprayed in an amount of at least 1kg (as the amount of the azide compound) per 10a. The spray is especially preferably performed in such a range that the product (A×B) of the sprayed azide compound (Akg/10a) with the treating time (B days) is 10-300. 100 pts.wt. of the composition preferably comprises 30-99 pts.wt. of solid powder, 1-40 pts.wt. of the azide compound and 0.1-30 pts.wt. of a water-soluble binder particles (average particle diameter of 100-2000μm).
