PURPOSE: To provide an automatic installing device and an automatic installing method by which aθposture around the (z) axis can be automatically adjusted in a condition of gripping a stem base when the stem base is fitted to and inserted into stem pins of a CRT and is joined to a stem and the stem base can be fitted and inserted without causing a stem crack or the like. CONSTITUTION: An automatic installing device is composed of a pair of cylindrical claws 20 to grip an inclined holding part of a stem base 5 of an installing body, a pressing mechanism 22 to push the stem base 5 in stem pins 3A and 3B of a CRT and a position and posture control mechanism 16A which can adjust a horizontal directional position and a rotational directional posture in the vertical direction. The stem base 5 is installed on a stem 2 by using this automatic installing device.
