PURPOSE: To enable the most favorable scale to be selected and displayed when moving in an area corresponding to map information with a different scale. CONSTITUTION: This current-position display device comprises a scale storage means 9 in which a scale for map information which should originally be set is stored as the desired scale in accordance with predetermined requirements; scale acquisition means 5, 12 by which, when map information for a new area is read out of the storage means 9, all of scales for the map information corresponding to the new area are acquired as new scales; a scale comparison means 5 by which, of the new scales, that which displays the narrowest range is compared with the currently displayed scale, and when the former displays a wider range, it is output as scale information; when the former displays a narrower range, the desired scale already stored is compared with each of the new scales and one of the new scales that is the closest to the desired scale is output as scale information to be set; and a display means 13 for displaying the map information. |
