An electric switchgear (1) consists essentially of a base (2), an actuating and/or setting component (3) and a contact spring (4) bridging a switching path in conjuction with the actuating and/or setting component, a moving contact (6) of which is applied in the closed position to a fixed contact (7) on the base (2). On the base (2) there are connecting components which are conductively connected to the fixed (7) or moving contact (6). Before assembly, the base (2) consists of a cohesive, substantially flat metal plate (10) having a central separating cut-out (11) to form two base sections (2a, 2b). The two base sections (2a, 2b) are joined by at least one bridging web (12) bent up from the plate plane and the first base section (2a) connects the contact spring (4) or the actuating and/or setting component (3) and the associated contact (8). The second base section (2b) bears the fixed contact (7) with the other terminal (8). The bridging webs (12) are separated after the assembly of both base sections (2a, 2b) on an insulating support (20) by a cutting process operated outside the plane of the base (2).
