Message reception apparatus 6 has a plurality of telephone lines from a PSTN 4, each line corresponding to a service provider, eg a nurse, warden etc, who may be attending an elderly person in a residential home. The provider uses a normal telephone 2 of the person who is being provided with services to inform the reception apparatus 6 and a computer 8 of the provider's presence. The reception apparatus 6 detects which line the call is placed on and the calling line identity (CLI) on that line. From this information the reception apparatus can derive which service is being provided to whom. A computer 8 will log this information and the time that the call was made, storing this data in a client database in the computer 8. By the service provider calling at the start and end of a job, the computer 8 can log the total time spent by the service provider and invoice appropriately. The reception apparatus 6 does not need to answer the calls to log the actions of service providers, thereby reducing costs. |
