1335246 Glass fibre sizing composition R J REYNOLDS TOBACCO CO 19 April 1971 [30 March 1970] 25258/71 Heading C3U [Also in Division D1] A size for glass fibres comprises a starch size comprising inorganic metal salts which normally on pyrolysis of said size form water-soluble ash, and an inorganic insolubilizing agent capable of reacting with said metal salts on pyrolysis of said size to form a relatively water-insoluble electrically insulating ash, a sufficient amount of said insolubilizing agent being present to convert substantially all of said ash to waterinsoluble form. The starch size is preferably benzylated starch, pearl corn starch, hydroxyethylated starch or waxy maize starch and the preferred insolubilizing agent is a phosphorus or silicon-containing material, e.g. NH 4 H 2 PO 4 , (NH 4 ) 2 HPO 4 , triethylammonium phosphate, dibutylammonium phosphate or dibutyl phosphite. |
