PURPOSE: To provide a thermal transfer printing paper capable of obtaining multi-graded images in high resolution and high quality with heat-meltable ink used. CONSTITUTION: A thermal transfer printing paper 2 is constructed with a multi- grooved layer 2a having a number of fine grooves 2a1, each in average groove width of 1-10μm and in the length in the direction of vertical scanning of 1 pixel or more, formed on a base 2b. An internal wall of the fine groove 2a1 is inclined at an angle θ below 90 deg.. As heat-meltable ink 1a is transferred onto the thermal transfer printing paper 2, the ink 1a permeates into the fine grooves 2a1 and spreads to the fine grooves 2a1, and thereby multi-graded images in high resolution and high quality can be obtained. |
