The invention relates to a diode-pumped high-powered solid state laser with at least one pump module comprising at least two laser diode arrays which irradiate transversely into a solid state laser rod. The travel of the radiation emitted from a laser diode array through the solid laser rod and the necessary absorption distance for said radiation, determined by the emission wavelength of said radiation and the doping of the laser-active medium are largely matched to each other in various manners.
