Filter for washing and retention of exhaust gases from motor vehicles, consisting of one or more reservoirs (A) or of a reservoir with several sections or lengths each one of which has a tube (B) for the inlet of exhaust gases which have already been partially filtered in the anterior reservoir or section or, in the case of the first reservoirs or length, have come directly from the engine, which are injected by means of diffuser tubes (C) into a filtering liquid (K) which is in reservoirs which filter them as they pass through passing towards the next reservoir or length or to the atmosphere out of the exhaust pipe (O). To prevent the impetuosity of the gases from entraining the filtering liquid, the reservoirs make use of a set of perforated plates (D) which also prevent the passage of any bubbles of filtering liquid which might be formed. The last reservoir or length has, at its outlet, a decompression chamber (I) with return of the condensed liquid to the reservoir. The filter makes use of a filling orifice (F) and of a purge (venting) orifice (G) which allow it to be serviced and cleaned.
