In a typical screen, a plastic - eg. PVB - layer (8), 0.76 mm thick, is sandwiched between outer (6), 2.5 mm, and inner (7), 2.2 mm, thick, glass sheets, the inner having a 30 mm diameter circular aperture (14) where the rear-view mirror is to be fixed. During heat treatment, accelerated cooling around the aperture toughens this area. After assembling the laminations, the plastic exposed within the aperture is removed, and the sensor's piezoelectric ceramic transducer (16), backed by associated circuitry (17), fixed directly to the outer glass inner face by a thin adhesive film (15). The mirror support (18), placed over the sensor, is fixed to the inner sheet (7) by a similar film (19). Two variants, one for "bi-layer" screen construction, are described. |
