Coating plastic substrates

A process for coating plastic substrates comprises applying an aq. or solvent-contg. coating material (A), irradiating with high-energy radiation and applying another coating material (B). Material (A) is dried before applying (B) and irradiation is performed before, during or after drying, or material (A) is first irradiated and then coated with (B) and both materials are then dried together. Material (A) contains (a) water and/or organic solvent, (b) opt. film-forming binders and/or paint additives and (c) 0.5-50 wt% of at least one liq., dissolved or emulsified halogen-free substance (I) with a mol. wt. of less than 5000, contg. at least one non-aromatic C-C triple bond. Also claimed is a plastic substrate coated by this process.
