PURPOSE: To firmly hold a hydrogen storage alloy on a collector so as to improve a charge/discharge cycle life by containing hydrogenated acrylonitrile butadiene rubber in a binder constituting a paste to be filled in a negative electrode collector. CONSTITUTION: An alkaline secondary battery is provided with a positive electrode 1, a negative electrode 2 constructed by filling a paste containing hydrogen storage alloy powder, a conductive body, and a binder into a collector, a separator 3 arranged between the positive electrode 1 and the negative electrode 2, and an alkaline electrolyte. In the binder, 1.0-5.0 parts by weight of hydrogenated acrylonitrile butadiene rubber is added to 100 parts by weight of hydrogen storage alloy. In this way, the hydrogen storage alloy and the conductive body are wrapped by the binder so as to be firmly held in the collector by means of a strong mutual action based on a cyano group contained in the binder, and as a result, peeling according to an advance of a charge/discharge cycle is prevented, and a cycle life can be improved. |
