摘要 The riding surfaces of the roller bearing incorporated in the descent brake form both the sled guide (9) and a sled-connected counterpart surface so the bearing revolves between these two surfaces round an axis normal to the direction of the guide (9). The continuation of the counterpart surface intersects the guide line at a point lying above the roller bearing in relation to the load force direction, the roller to move towards this intercept and held in contact with one or other bearing surface. If the rope (4) fails, the roller is moved in its bearing off an externally triggered slide. The slide consists of a spring (8) which applies a load counter to the bolt (6) retractably resting on the roller (7). The rollers together with their bearing surfaces move symmetrically in pairs in opposite sides of the sled guide (9), using cylindrical rollers for preference, or alternatively spherically designed rollers, though both types of roller and their counterpart surface are necessarily roughened. The rope engages a two-arm elastic lever (5) pivoted on the sled, using the second lever arm as roller slide joined mechanically to the roller, supplemented by the connection between rope-engaged lever arm sled (13) afforded by the spring.
