<p>PURPOSE:To reduce the device in size by providing a rotational position sensor for detecting the relative rotational position to a rotor on an upper column shaft to detect the amount of torsion. CONSTITUTION:Usually a rotational position sensor 12 detects the intermediate position of adjacent magnetic poles arranged side by side in the circumferential direction of a rotor 7, and a rotation sensor 10 detects the rotational position of the rotor 7. An upper column shaft 24A is twisted with respect to a lower column shaft 2B through a torsion bar 4 by rotation of a steering wheel 1. Whereupon, the rotational position sensor 12 is rotated with the upper column shaft 2A to detect the torsion of the upper and lower column shafts. The detection signals are input to a control portion to conduct switching operation, and an electric current according to the rotational position of the rotor 7 is applied to a coil 8a. Thus, a motor DM supplements steering force according to the detected amount of torsion. Accordingly, the device can be reduced in size.</p> |
