<p>PURPOSE: To make possible the reading of a bar code symbol even when a photodetector array has a specific defect to disturb image pickup on its entire surface. CONSTITUTION: This method is provided with a step for optically picking up the image of view including symbols to be read having plural code words respectively expressing coded information items on a photodetector array 100, step for transferring the expression of light entered on the photodetector array 100 to a memory, step for deciding the positions of image picked-up code words 130 and 140 and deciding which one of image picked-up code words is valid, and step for reconstituting the entire symbol by using only the valid image picked-up code word while utilizing excessive information in the bar code symbol.</p> |
