PURPOSE: To decrease the leaking of light through pixel edge part and to improve contrast and uniformity in the display. CONSTITUTION: In this liquid crystal display device, the orientation of the liquid crystal compsn. layer and the structure of a polarizing means are designed in such a manner that when the voltage VLC applied between the pixel electrode 12 and the common electrode is gradually increased from zero, the brightness decreases. The light-shielding part, signal wire electrode 14 and pixel electrode 12 are disposed to satisfy lB>lD+2 (μm) and dLC/lB<0.8, wherein dLC is the gap between substrates, lD is the distance between the signal wire electrode 14 and pixel electrode 12, and lB is the distance between the edge of the signal electrode 14 and the display edge of the pixel electrode 12. |
