PURPOSE: To provide the stain identifying device of a printed matter capable of accurately identifying even stains localized on either one of the surfaces of the printed matter. CONSTITUTION: The respective picture data of the entire front and back surfaces of the printed matter P are respectively inputted by picture input parts 1 and 6, specified area extraction parts 3 and 8 respectively extract the picture data inside specified areas from the inputted respective picture data, feature amount extraction parts 4 and 9 respectively extract physical feature amounts for the extracted picture data inside the respective specified areas and stain judgement parts 5 and 10 judge the respective stains at the front and back of the printed matter P by comparing the extracted respective feature amounts with a reference value set beforehand. Then, a front and back evaluation part 11 compares the respective judged results of the stain judgement parts 5 and 10 and selectively outputs one of the judged results as a final stain identified result for the printed matter P based on the compared result. |
