FIELD: instrument making, electrical engineering, jewelry and other branches of industry. SUBSTANCE: method involves supplying designed explosive charge into blasting chamber; initiating explosion; charging portion of carbonaceous material into die cell. Explosive charge is calculated on account of range of metal striker working speeds corresponding to the range of diamond stability pressure amplitude as well as on account of indications of photodetector registering intensive nonequilibrium irradiation on diamond spectral luminescence line. Method allows diamond powder with particle size exceeding 1 micron and grain crystal parameters approximating that of natural diamond to be produced and diamond powder yield to be increased up to 70-80%.
