A method and apparatus of assembling a joint of an endless track chain for track-laying vehicles to prevent end play in the joint. The joint includes a pair of links (16) and a cylindrical pin (41). Each link includes a laterally outwardly offset outboard end collar (18) having a boss (38) extending outwardly therefrom and a bore (33) therethrough. Each end portion of the pin has an annular groove (44) and is pressed and non-rotatably mounted into a respective one of the bores of the outboard end collars. A punch (48) is placed against the outer periphery of the boss in radial alignment with the groove, and a force is applied on the punch to form a nodule (47) protruding from the second bore of the outboard end collar into the groove.
