PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain light weight of press formed articles and reduction of manufacturing cost. SOLUTION: A press formed article 10 is provided with a shape of a formed article by press-forming a workpiece for a press formed article wherein the workpiece as the base material is partly increased in thickness. In the workpiece for the press formed article, a first edge part 41 that contains a part of the outer circumferential edge in the planar portion of the workpiece comprising a steel material and a second edge part 42 that contains a part in other parts of the outer circumferential edge are relatively compressed.
