PURPOSE: To reduce the cost of a charger and improve the degree of freedom in designing and usability. CONSTITUTION: A first and a second current stabilizing circuit 11, 12 stabilize the input current from a power supply for charging, and output a large current and a small current, respectively. A switching circuit 14 actuates the first current stabilizing circuit 11 first, and quickly charges a battery pack 3 with a large current. When battery voltage reaches a specified value and approaches full charge, it is detected by a voltage detecting circuit 13. As a result the switching circuit 14 stops the operation of the first current stabilizing circuit 11, and actuates the second current stabilizing circuit 12 to continue charging with a small current. Battery voltage slightly decreases and then increases again. When it reaches the specified value and full charge takes place, the operation of the second current stabilizing circuit 12 is also stopped to complete charging. |
