Making positive tubular plates for lead acid accumulators with injected-on base strips

The positive tubular plate for lead acid accumulators has axis-parallel tubes of electrolyte-permeable acid resistant material. Within, lead grid rods run coaxially, with a filling of chemically-active substances. The lower ends of all tubes are closed by a common base strip of acid resistant plastic. On the strip a stopper extends into each tube, fitting exactly and welded to the inner wall, to seal it. The new feature, is use of an injection mould encircling the lower ends of the tubes, to inject plastic directly onto the tube ends, forming the base strip (9). Some (9a) of the mass enters the tubes to form terminal stoppers, penetration being a function of injection pressure. The remainder (9b) surrounds the tube ends externally, and contacts the outer wall, pref. fused-on.
