PURPOSE: To surely cut off the effect of the open air on a recording medium as well as to prevent the peeling of a film due to the concentration of stress in the peripheral part of the substrate by coating the edge part of a recording layer with a protective layer in the edge part of the recording region of the recording medium. CONSTITUTION: In general, the adhesion of the material 3 of a recording layer to a protective layer is lower than the adhesion of a substrate to a protective layer 2, that of a protective layer 4 to a reflecting layer 5 and that of the reflecting layer to a protective coat 6 and this tendency is more remarkable in an optical information recording medium than in a magneto-optical medium. Coating with a protective layer is therefore more advantageous to the recording layer than exposure to the peripheral edge of the substrate. In this case, the recording layer is not formed in the non-recording region and the protective layers 2, 4 are brought into direct contact with each other. The edge part of the recording region including the lateral face of the recording layer can be protected with the protective layers. |
