PURPOSE: To efficiently obtain the subject compound useful as a lubricant, etc., good in lubricity without any corrosivenenss in high yield by reacting a hexavalent molybdenum compound with an alkali hydrosulfide, etc., and adding and reacting a reducing agent with the resultant aqueous solution, a secondary amine and a mineral acid. CONSTITUTION: (E) A reducing agent is added in an optional step in reacting (A) an aqueous solution or suspension prepared by reacting a compound having a hexavalent molybdenum with an alkali hydrosulfide or an alkali sulfide with (B) carbon disulfide, (C) a secondary amine and (D) a mineral acid in a method for reacting the components and producing a molybdenum oxysulfide dithiocarbamate represented by formula I (R<1> to R<4> are each a hydrocarbon which may contain oxygen; X is O or S). The amounts of the components based on 1mol molybdenum atom in the component (A) are 0.9-2mol component (B) and 0.9-2mol component (C). The amount (d) of the added component (D) based on 1 alkali equiv. of the component (A) is that satisfying the range of formula II (R' is the total number of carbon atoms in R<1> to R<1> ) when R' is <32 and the range of formula III when R' is >=32. |
