Box for a reel consisting of two parallel side flanges (50, 52) and a hub (54) between them. This box consists mainly of two parties, a fixed box-shaped lower part with two parallel side walls (10, 12) parallel to the side flanges (50, 52) of the reel and provided with a support for the reel and a front wall base wall (18) and rear wall (16) an upper part (24, 26, 28) that can be rotated in relation to the lower part that at one extreme position leaves the upper side of the lower part open and thus makes the reel accessible and in the other extreme position closes the upper side of the lower part completely and thus makes the reel inaccessible with the rotatable upper part revolving about an axis that coincides with the axis of the reel and with means of locking (38) provided permitting the box to be placed in a locked condition.
