PURPOSE: To provide the optical scanning tunneling microscope having the high resolution based on the new principle. CONSTITUTION: This apparatus is constituted of at least an optical fiber 3, whose tip is covered with an energy receiving body 6, a prism 1, on which a sample containing an energy donor 7 or covered with the energy donor 7 is mounted, an XY-axes moving mechanism 9, a control mechanism 10, a Z-axis moving mechanism 11, a control mechansim 12, a light source 13, an optical system 14 and an optical detecting system 15. The fact that the dependence of the energy moving efficiency on the distance from the optically excited energy donor 7 to an energy acceptor 6 occurs in the closer region in comparison with the intensity distribution of evanescent light is utilized, and the surface observation in high resolution is performed. |
