PURPOSE: To prevent irregularity in display or light near the sealing part caused by production of the seal in the sealing part. CONSTITUTION: The liquid crystal display element consists of transparent substrates 10, 120 having transparent electrodes 117, 121, respectively, disposed with a space 132 in such a manner that the transparent electrodes 117, 121 of the substrates 10, 120 facing each other, and a seal 130 disposed around the display part of the space 132, and a liquid crystal 131 disposed in the area surrounded by the seal 130. In this element, a light-shielding film 12 is formed on at least one transparent substrate 10 and the light-shielding film 12 is formed to cover the lower part of the seal 130 and the peripheral part of the seal 130. Therefore, the light-shielding film 12 is formed under the seal, irregular leaking of light in the area under the seal or around the seal which causes irregular display can be prevented. |
