A dynamic pressure bearing includes an axial bearing surface 2 having dynamic pressure generating grooves 6 formed thereon by plastic working. The bearing has ridge portions 7 defined between adjacent grooves 6. A top end 7B of the ridge portion has rounded edge portions 7B-1 and a flat bearing surface 7B-2 defined between the edge portions. Since the edge portions are rounded, an opposite surface is prevented from being damaged. Further, the presence of the flat bearing surface defined between the edge portions results in increased load-carrying capacity. The bearing surface is made by pressing with first and second dies 5, 8 (Figures 1A, 1B). |
