The connector includes a plug (12) which comprises a box (22) and a grid (32) fitted into it to lock the contacts in passages parallel to the direction of insertion. The base (10) has also a box enclosing the cavity into which another contact-locking grid is inserted and a slider (14) movable in a transverse direction. The second grid presents plates (60) acting to stop the plug before the studs of the plug box enter passages in the slider. The plates are joined to the body of the grid by a thinner hinge portion which removed them from the path of the plug when the first grid is fully inserted.
