<p>PURPOSE: To obtain an oil with a low chlorine content by melting or dissolving a polymer, bringing the polymer into close contact with a basic substance, and thermally decomposing the polymer. CONSTITUTION: A synthetic polymer to be thermally decomposed may contain a thermoplastic resin and a thermosetting resin and may be a resin alone or a mixture provided it becomes a liq. or slurry when heated. The amt. of a thermosetting resin contained in a thermoplastic resin should be 30wt.% or lower. KOH and NaOH are pref. basic substances for removing chlorine; however, a Ca compd. is sometimes still pref. industrially. The temp. of thermal decomposition can be in the range of from the m.p. of the polymer to the temp. at which the decomposition oil is refluxed. The treating time is not limited specifically; however, a time from 1min to 3hr is selected. The amt. of the basic substance is not specifically limited; however, 0.1 equivalent or higher is used based on 1 mol of chlorine contained in the polymer.</p> |
