NEW CEPHALOSPORIN C ACYLASE AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE: To obtain the subject variant enzyme useful for producing cephalosporin compounds, having desirable characteristics such as higher enzymatic activity and higher processing rate. CONSTITUTION: This new variant cephalosporin C acylase is such that the amino acid(s) at Leu<160> and/or Trp<168> site(s) on the amino acid sequence of a natural- type cephalosporin C acylase stands substituted by other amino acid(s) (e.g. variant CC acylase L160A, variant CC acylase W168Y). This enzyme can be prepared by the recombinant DNA technique or polypeptide synthesis process.
