PURPOSE: To produce a vinyl chloride resin excellent in stereoregularity by using a catalyst comprising an aluminum compound, a boron compound as an optional ingredient, and a transition metal compound. CONSTITUTION: The polymerization of vinyl chloride or copolymerization of vinyl chloride with a substance copolymerizable therewith is conducted by using a catalyst comprising an aluminum compound, a boron compound as an optional ingredient, and a transition metal compound of the formula (S)(U)M×k (wherein M is a group 4, 5 or 6 transition metal in the periodic table; S and U are each a monocyclic or polycyclic hydrocarbon group; X is H, halogeno or a hydrocarbon group; and k is 0-2).
