PURPOSE: To rapidly and precisely operate all display elements by constituting drive control of a rotor by respective operation modes of acceleration, deceleration, stationary and in order of that, and switching respective modes with a rotational position detection signal. CONSTITUTION: This element is provided with a color display body 1 provided with plural display surfaces of different colors, a permanent magnet type stepping motor mechanism for rotary driving the color display body 1 and a rotational position detection means for detecting the rotational position of the rotor of the motor mechanism, and the stepping motor mechanism consists of a rotor magnet 2, a stator 3, a magnetic core 3, a base plate 6 and a rotary shaft 9, and the rotational position detection means consists of a detecting magnet 8 and a magnetism detection element 7. Then, the rotary drive control of the rotor of the display element is performed by the signal of the rotational position detection means, and the operation mode of the stepping motor is switched like acceleration→deceleration→stationary. Thus, all display elements are positioned rapidly and precisely regardless of initial dispersion and subsequent fluctuation, etc., of various parameters of the display element.
