PURPOSE: To provide the seal material satisfying various properties required for seal, the seal to use the material and suitable methods for their production. CONSTITUTION: Aluminum, titanium and manganese powders of 5-300μm particle size are mixed so that aluminum has a mixing ratio of 30-55mol%, the mixture is deaerated, and after it is densified by hot extruding at the temp. of not forming TiAl intermetallic compound and at an extruding ratio of 5-15, the TiAl intermetallic compound, which is produced by subjecting the densified body to high temp./high pressure treatment to obtain the seal material having holes of 1-50μm size of 0.01-0.5vol%. The seal material satisfies various properties required for seal. When the seal material is sand blasted while covering the projecting part of seal surface as a shape of seal by cutting, etc., with rubber, the part which is not covered with rubber is engraved to produce a seal shape.
