An overhead structure comprising metallic masts (21) and stays (23) support the swimming pool cover (3) which is rectangular and has glazed facades. The cover, consisting of an inflatable air bed with dimensions necessary to cover the surface, is formed from a series of independent modules (4). The modules which are light can be folded on the end zone of the surface. The modules are constituted by upper (5) and lower (6) covers and joined by covered sections which form sealed compartments. The modules are identical except for the end ones which are adapted to the different dimensions of the surface to be covered. The upper covers have an appropriate resistance to external agents. The lower surface of the lower cover is slightly reflective so as to diffuse the light.
