Drive unit for hot/cold energy machine using regenerative gas process

A drive unit for a heat/cold energy machine using a regenerative gas process has two moving pistons joined to a crankshaft, held in bearings in the housing. At least the piston rod(10) of the hot piston is supported against the housing wall(1) by a spring (16) to minimise the force exerted by the piston upon the mechanism. The crankshaft is joined to at least two toothed segments lying opposite each other which cannot rotate relatively. The segments are formed as serrations over the whole periphery of a flywheel (6), with which a gear or worm engages for starting purposes. The two pistons lie one behind the other with the crankpins coupled by coulisses(8,12) on the respective piston rods.
