PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface light source element of a high luminance for maintaining a uniformity in a surface and to provide a display device using the same and having a high brightness and a uniform surface luminance. SOLUTION: This surface light source element is provided with a light source 2, a reflector 8, a light guide body 3, having light from the light source 2 reflected by the reflector 8 entered from both end surfaces l facing each other, and an emission light control plate 4 provided on a surface, where plural rise parts 7 for directing light from an emission surface to a front surface direction of the emission surface face the light guide body 3. The light guide body 3 sticks to top parts of the rise parts 7 of the emission light control plate 4 via at least one layer of optically transparent layers 9. The refractive index of the rise parts 7 of the emission light control plate 4 is larger than the refractive index of the light guide body 3, and the refractive index of each layer is larger than the refractive index of the light guide body 3. |
