Map information and position display arrangement for motor vehicles

The display arrangement involves a position detector (3) which determines the instantaneous vehicle position, a map storage (5) for map information classified into a number of scale levels, a display (7), a display touch position detector (8) and a control unit (4). The display displays map information read from the storage memory and the measured instantaneous vehicle position. The control unit responds to a signal to indicate that a defined region is shown on the display by switching the display from scroll mode, in which the centre of the screen always shows the instantaneous position and the map image scrolls as the vehicle moves, into a mode in which two map images are shown on the screen in separate windows in which scroll mode is active.
