PURPOSE: To provide an electric heating catalytic converter which is simple in its structure and can reduce the number of electrodes and also provide a method for controlling the electric heating catalytic converter which can improve purifying performance when an engine is started. CONSTITUTION: An electric heating catalytic converter is built up in such a manner that a notch 27a is formed in the diametral direction of a metallic catalyst support 27, a plurality of divided parts A1, A2, A3, A4 are formed on a notch part 27a side, and a successive part B1 is formed on a side opposite to the notch 27a, and also divided part side electrodes C1, C2, C3, C4 are respectively connected to the divided parts A1, A2, A3, A4 and a successive part side electrode D1 is connected to the successive part B1. A method for controlling the electric heating catalytic converter is such that the successive part side electrode D1 is energized in the order of the divided part side electrode C1 of the divided part A1 on an exhaust gas inflow side in the metallic catalyst support 27. |
