PURPOSE: To improve the resolution of pictures turned to halftone generated by a binary printer by selecting every other pixel data and filtering the selected pixel data corresponding to a file coefficient. CONSTITUTION: Only picture elements to which a mark 9 is attached, that are only every other picture element, are processed. The other picture elements are neither processed nor printed and are set to a non-printing value such as zero for instance. To put it concretely, a dither array and an intermediate array used for driving the dither array are provided with only components sufficient for coping with the processed every other picture element. In other words, relating to pictures dither processed by a pxq dither array and expressed by nxm picture elements, only every other picture element, that is only (n/2}×m picture elements, is processed. Thus, the dither array and the so-called intermediate array are provided with 1×k components and the respective components correspond in relation to only n/2}×m elements. |
