The surgical suction instrument consists essentially of a tubular container (2), the forward end (2a) of which bears a fluid-permeable suction point (4) and the rear end (2b) of which can be connected to a vacuum source, and a valve arrangement to regulate the vacuum. The suction point (4) consists of a bunch of fibres, hard-pressed felt, porous sintered material or a similar rigid porous or capillary material.
