An optical data recording medium comprising a data area including plurality of zones; wherein said zones have data blocks which include predetermined number of data units in the data area, and when the data block is fragmented by a boundary between the plurality zones the fragmented data units in the rearmost data block of a zone are skipped. The recording medium has a re- allocated data block re-allocated from the beginning of the next zone after skipping the fragmented data units at the rearmost area of the zone, and a primary spare area for skipping the defective data units and data units from the fragmented data units.
