PURPOSE: To obtain a compound MS-271, a new physiologically active substance showing antimicrobial and anti-AIDS viral activity, containing a specific amino acid sequence and plural intramolecular S-S bonds, by culturing a specific bacterium belonging to the genus Streptomyces. CONSTITUTION: This compound MS-271 is shown by the formula (A is Ala; C is Cys; D is Asp; F is Phe; G is Gly; I is Ile; L is Leu; N is Asn; S is Ser; V is Val; Y is Try; W is Trp) and is a new physiologically active substance showing antimicrobial and anti-AIDS viral activity. The compound of obtained by inoculating a bacterium belonging to the genous Streptomyces [e.g. Streptomyces sp. M-271 strain (FERM BP-4,478)] into a medium, subjecting it to shaking culture at 28 deg.C for 5 days to prepare a seed culture solution, subjecting the seed culture solution added to a fermentation medium to shaking culture at 28 deg.C for 5 days, collecting cells, adding them to methanol, stirring, filtering, treating the filtrate using a hydrophobic column, eluting the adsorbed substance and purifying the eluted solution by passing it through a reversed phase silica gel column. |
